While the words “chemical” and “peel” aren’t exactly inviting, chemical peels are more “a-peeling” than ever! (Don’t you love my clever pun?)
According to a recent survey by the Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, 2016 saw a growing demand for chemical peels as a treatment for acne, brown spots, and fine lines and wrinkles.
The power of chemical peels
I’m not surprised. At AVIE! Medspa, we frequently perform professional-grade chemical peels to help restore glowing, younger-looking skin for clients of all ages and skin types. We offer a wide range of peels to meet a variety of skin concerns, from sun damage and age spots to acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and blotchiness.
One of the questions I get asked all the time is what exactly happens during and after a chemical peel. Chemical peels are a type of exfoliating treatment, during which we apply a thin layer of a fruit-based acid to remove the outermost layer of skin cells and stimulate new collagen growth. There are many types of peels with different ingredients, including lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and more.
Depending on your needs and goals, you may decide to do a series of mild peels or a few more intense ones. At your consultation, we can help you devise the optimal peel and treatment plan for you.
