You have probably already heard about the all-natural rejuvenation possible with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), but did you know there is an even more powerful option called platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM)? Or perhaps you’ve seen or heard mention of PRFM and wondered how it was different from PRP. Either way, we are excited to share some impressive study results that can help you understand why we choose to offer PRFM here at AVIE!
A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (Dec. 2020) demonstrated that PRFM caused significant improvement of skin surface spots and pore size, plus numerical improvements in skin texture, wrinkles, ultraviolet spots and porphyrins.
An even more recent study published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal (July 2021) found that PRFM can “objectively improve skin quality compared to the placebo.” Specifically, PRFM noticeably improved skin texture.
By now you may be wondering how PRFM differs from PRP to generate these kinds of head-turning results. Here’s how it works!
PRP vs. PRFM
PRFM is actually PRP in its purest form. Unlike traditional PRP, PRFM is an even more concentrated portion of your own blood, containing a higher concentration of platelets to accelerate healing and the production of vibrant new collagen in the skin.
Our PRP microneedling facials and PRP facelifts here in Leesburg all use the more-potent PRFM to ensure you experience the highest quality results, tailored to your specific skin needs and aesthetic goals. Even our PRP hair restoration treatments use PRFM, so you can expect enhanced results in regrowing a thicker, fuller head of your own hair.
During a PRP microneedling facial at AVIE!, we will topically apply your own PRFM to your face after we perform microneedling in the desired areas, which allows the PRFM to penetrate the skin, revealing improvements to skin tone and texture. Some people may require a series of PRP microneedling facials to achieve their best results.
A PRP facelift takes your results a step further by directly injecting your own PRFM into targeted areas of the face, effectively smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles for a more refreshed, younger look. A series of two to four treatments is typically recommended, spaced four weeks apart.
For PRFM hair restoration, we will inject your PRFM directly into your scalp, distributing the powerful growth factors to result in fuller, thicker hair over time. We recommend three to four treatments, once every four weeks, for optimal results, since hair growth is a natural, gradual process. Treatments can be tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Vivace™ Micro Needle RF is another skin-revitalizing treatment that can be enhanced with PRFM. FDA-cleared Vivace combines microneedling with powerful radiofrequency (RF) energy and LED light to smooth wrinkles, tighten skin, reduce acne and improve skin tone and texture. Now that PRFM is further proven to improve skin texture, we know that adding PRFM to your Vivace treatment can deliver a synergistic boost of skin smoothing benefits.
